Jungle-Izzard Cup

The Jungle-Izzard Cup (JIC) is contested each year between Edinburgh University Fencing Club and University College, London Fencing Club. The competition came about after Ed ‘Izzard’ Manning met with George of the ‘Jungle’ Foley on a UCL tour to Mainz, Germany in 2004. How they got their names remains a mystery.

There were many a drunken night on that tour, and both became great friends after a certain episode that saw George take a great affection to a bollard. There was much laughter on the part of Ed and the tale has been recalled many a time.

Having both sobered up a few months later; the Jungle-Izzard Cup was born.

Currently the JIC resides in London after UCL won the last match in 2005/2006.

EUFC v TCD

In the New Year of 2005, EUFC embarked on a tour to Dublin to fence Trinity College, Dublin. EUFC won the match against TCD and the infamous breeches belonging to one of the fencer's would be ever immortalised in EUFC history. TCD came over to Edinburgh to fence for 'Owen's Breeches', which by this time had been framed. Again EUFC won the match.
